Dr Ian Hassall is a party to the 'Tick for Kids' process which will be a platform for children's interests in this election year. He was involved in setting up the Every Child Counts coalition which put forward policies for children in the 2005 and subsequent general election campaigns and sought successfully to have political parties include in their manifestos coherent children's policies. In his earlier career, Ian was consultant paediatrician at the Princess Mary and St Helens Hospitals, medical advisor to the Plunket Society, Children's Commissioner and convenor of the twelfth ISPCAN Congress in Auckland. He has been involved in public campaigns for immunisation, child safety and repeal of S59 of the Crimes Act 1961. He has undertaken research and published papers on aspects of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy, prevention of child injury death and child maltreatment and children's place in society. Ian was presented with UNICEF's Aldo Farina award for child rights advocacy in 2010.
